Kingston

Bob Marley Museum

former home and recording studio of Bob Marley

About Bob Marley Museum

The museum that stands in celebration of the world-famous reggae legend, Bob Marley, is a must-see in Kingston. (As mentioned, a separate Bob Marley Museum stands in St. Ann – honouring his early years).

As the initial home of the icon, the Kingston location focuses on Bob’s adulthood and mostly highlights his successful years as a musician when he moved into the area, dubbed “Uptown”. His former dwelling, now museum, was actually once Bob’s home, gifted to him by his record producer. At the beginning of the tour guests have the honour of meeting Bongo Herman, a percussionist who actually played with Bob Marley in his prime. Mr. Herman will carry patrons on an interactive journey, showcasing unique musical instruments and allowing guests to learn how to use them.

In addition to his amazing music which resonated with individuals world-wide, Bob Marley was a huge advocate for justice no matter how small. Having such a huge platform and influence with his stance against injustice, Marley received opposition to his cause of spreading awareness. For this reason, there was an assassination attempt at this very location, where evidence (bullet holes) of said attempt are highlighted to this day on the tour.

The museum does a phenomenal job at capturing Bob’s essence, passion and lifetime achievements which makes you feel like you were there in real time. The museum also has several awards and merits on display, a state-of-the-art recording studio to capture his sound and a movie theatre which shows a documentary which will leave you in awe.

We had a great time at YS Falls. We were able to explore all the pools going up the waterfall and swim in them. It is such a beautiful part of the world.

There’s a short bus journey from the car park to the site.

There are people there who will offer to take photos - for a tip. The staff were all friendly and it was a lovely clean spot. The manmade pools at the bottom are built beautifully and good for swimming in.
